Parent Teacher Organization
(PTO)
Thatcher Brook Primary School
is fortunate and proud to have an
active PTO.
Parents participate in many different ways.
While for some parents, volunteering in their child's classroom
each week is a good fit, for many others, simply coming and enjoying
an event is the best way to participate in the PTO!
Of course, there are
many ways in between to be involved
with the PTO, and your activities can change over time.
WE WELCOME ANY AND ALL PARTICIPATION!
MISSION
The PTO mission, officially, is to:
-
Enrich the lives of children;
-
Enhance the educational process;
-
Build community; and
-
Support and open
network of communication between the school and community.
PROCESS
Practically speaking, the PTO will focus on:
-
Organizing social events for community
building;
-
Fundraising for field
trips and discretionary grants;
-
Supporting special
projects according to the interests and energy of the PTO and the TBPS
community.
WHY
GET INVOLVED IN THE PTO?
-
It’s
easy and doesn’t have to take up a lot of time
The PTO makes it easy to get involved by offering
something
for everyone – whether you simply want to read up on what’s happening,
attend a social event, volunteer in a small or big way, or attend
parent forums or PTO meetings to better understand the educational
process and discuss topics of interest. And there’s no membership fee.
-
Make a difference
The efforts of PTO volunteers have paid
for field trips, sponsored cultural events, supported the ELF
parent-run, environmental learning program, helped to purchase cross
country skis that all classes use, purchased drums for the music
department, offered forums and workshops for parents, and helped to
beautify the school. We
can do even
more with your help.
-
Meet other parents and have fun
Make friends, share
ideas, and enrich your own life by being a part of the school community.
-
Give
input
Help plan
events and
activities.
-
Help
your child
Research shows
that when parents are involved in education, student grades go up,
test
scores improve, discipline problems decrease, self-esteem rises. An
effective parent group is good for the school and it’s good for
children.
